ODA Course

Ⅰ. Background

  • 1. Taekwondo is the Korean traditional martial art and it is popular with people of both genders and of many ages. Physically, Taekwondo develops strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. And Taekwondo has been developed and spread rapidly by both Korean masters and the foreign masters who love Taekwondo.

  • 2. As Korea economy has been developing, it needs the sharing sport program to jump the advanced sport country and the improvement for Korea brand image.

  • 3. The demanding the comprehensive and long-term higher education rises for establishing network between domestic sport administrators and international sport experts who will be educated as the sport expert in this program in order to have sport influence on the global sport.

  • 4. To use the professional education function in Taekwondowon, and to promote the image of motherland of Taekwondo, and to improve the influencing sport Taekwondo through training Taekwondo athletes in the Olympics.

Ⅱ. Purpose

  • 1. To increase the professional education for developing countries’athletes and coaches and to cultivate the international Taekwondo masters as a martial art.

  • 2. To promote the positive Korean images this program provides not only Taekwondo training but also various opportunities for Korean culture.

Ⅲ. Main Contents

  • 1.The overview of global sport Taekwondo program
    • -Number/Educational Target : 60 Participants/Taekwondo coaches and players.

  • 2.The educational brief content.
    • 1) The KUKKIWON International Master Course(1 week)
    • 2) Taekwondo theories(History, Coaching) and Practical(Techniques, etc)
    • 3) Special lecture of Taekwondo Grand Master and meeting with former or current Korean representative Taekwondo players.
    • 4) The culture experience program for Korean traditional culture.(Weekends)

Ⅳ. Detailed Programme

  • 1.The Plan of operating.
    • -The program will be operated by WTA, Kukkiwon.
    • -The program requires FOUR weeks (160 hours) from October 8st until November 5st.
    • All participants will stay in Taekwondowon, Muju, Korea.

  • 2.Curriculum
    • 1) The Global Taekwondo Master’s Training Program is a 160-hour program that embraces a wide range of topics, composed of 4 themes (Taekwondo theory, Taekwondo practical technique training, Culture Experience and Special lecture).

Theme 1 Taekwondo theory (15 hours)

- Taekwondo Instruction studying (3 hours)

- Taekwondo courtesy (3 hours)

- Taekwondo Spirit studying (3 hours)

- Rules of competition (3 hours)

- Rules and regulations of Promotion Test (3 hours)

Theme 2 Taekwondo Practical (59 hours)

- Terminology and basic movement (6 hours)

- Color belt/black belt Poomsae (25 hours)

- Gyeorugi (10 hours)

- Taekwondo demonstration and breaking (10 hours)

- Taekwondo Taping (8 hours)

Theme 3 Taekwondo Experience (40 hours)

- Kukkiwon and Culture Experience (24 hours)

- Traditional Culture Experience (8 hours)

- The program of Taekwondo University training (8 hours)

Theme 4 Special lecture (6 hours)

- The qualification Taekwondo instructor (3 hours)

- Taekwondo cultural values (3 hours)

Ⅴ. Target Group

  • -This global sport Taekwondo program is designed for competent and promising Taekwondo coaches and players in developing countries world-wide, as well as Taekwondo administrators who are interested in promoting and improving Taekwondo in their countries.

  • 1.Admission Eligibility
    • 1) Hold at least 4th Dan certificate.(Possibly over 2nd Dan)
    • 2) Next generation talents among athletes and current Taekwondo administrators.
    • 3) Have sufficient command of both spoken and written English to take classes conducted entirely in English.
    • 4) Have potential and passion for Taekwondo development.
    • 5) Medalist in the international competition recognized by Kukkiwon/WTF.

  • 2.Financial aid
    • -The Global Taekwondo Master’s Program offers a full scholarship (All cost of this course) as well as accommodation and return flight tickets. Also, Including all transportation fees, Uniforms, Instructor’s Certificate.
